CARE FUNDING IN WALES

The funding rules relating to care in Wales differ from those in England.

The key differences can be summarised as follows:

From April 2010, a single support threshold was put into operation in Wales at which funding support becomes available at £22,500.

For those in nursing care a rate per week is decided upon and paid by the individual local Health Boards.

The twelve week property disregard rules apply and the personal allowance is £23.00 per week. However, Attendance Allowance ceases after 28 days except for those who are or will be self funding.

Further information is available from the local Health Board in Wales or The Welsh Assembly at social_care@wales.gsi.gov.uk
