PAYING FOR RESPITE CARE

Most local authorities operate a discretionary policy in terms of paying for respite care. Some will be willing to fund up to 6 weeks care if it assists the normal carer and helps to ensure the individual can return home. Others will consider the financial circumstances of the individual in determining the level of any support they will provide.

In all cases, the needs of the individual would be subject to assessment.

As a result, some individuals are required to meet some or all of the costs of any respite care they may require, other than the benefits to which they may be entitled.
