In developing a funding strategy for long term care, the starting point is to determine the level of financial support which may be available from the Government. Many people wrongly assume that they will have no entitlement because they own assets but this may not be the case.

The CareAware Funding Flow Chart is designed to determine your basic funding status and this will allow you to then establish your entitlements under the system.

The flow chart is structured to the funding of personal care in England and will lead on to financial support of nursing care. Because the systems are different around the United Kingdom, please check the details for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland before proceeding.

The flow chart will also need to determine if any gifts of property or money have been made which may fall within the remit of asset deprivation. If this may be the case, visit the Gifting of Assets section before proceeding.
